I have mixed feelings about this image, but I wanted to post it anyway, because it shows so much of what I like about the 5D. Mixed feelings because I think, as I look at it, that I should’ve moved the tripod a few feet to my right so as to move the birch more towards the window in the composition. But I may be quibbling.
Winter continues to linger on here. However, I just received word that I’ll be traveling to Brazil for work in a few weeks. Never been to South America, and I would imagine there might be a picture opportunity or two there for me. I’ll tell you one thing, I’m going to be packing light. Probably just the 5D, one lens and the Bessa with the 35mm Biogon. Street shooting in Rio, anyone?

Chris, wonderful range of tones in this photo. Brazil sounds like a grand experience. I’ve never been to South America either but would welcome the chance. Looking forward to seeing some of you photos from there.
I’m in Cleveland this morning where it’s snowing and cold. I’ve not done much night photography in winter, sounds like a project to delve into this year. I also like your tones.
Never been to Brazil and would love to walk the streets of Rio with camera in hand. Looking forward to seeing what images you come back with.
I really need to better understand how different digital cameras capture information. This is lovely and rich.
Rio sounds like and excellent adventure. Love to visit Brazil, and Rio would be one place, but I would also search out the Modernism. Specifically I would want to see Brasilia and as many other works of Oscar Niemeyer as possible.
Chris: My wife is from Brazil. She says to be extremely careful walking the streets of Rio.

Not to scare you my friend, but it’s not as safe as the streets of NYC. By all means, be careful!!!
It is going to be interesting, for sure. I’ll be posting, no question.
Thanks, Monte.
Kevin, well, this is partly the quality of the 5D, partly the work of Nik Silver Efex, and partly my desire to get an image at night with the tripod setup.
Wow, that’s a fascinating set of filters.
Kevin, I did a more detailed write-up about Nik Silver Efex in a post that’s going up shortly. I might do a more detailed write up of the process if you’re interested.
